Lasting power of attorney in the UK: The facts
Lasting Powers of Attorney are increasingly popular in the UK as people recognise the importance of planning ahead. Here are some key statistics:
- In 2022/23, over 970,000 LPAs were registered with the Office of the Public Guardian in England and Wales, a 10% increase from the previous year.
- Approximately 60% of registered LPAs are for property and financial affairs, while 40% cover health and welfare decisions.
- Over 25% of adults aged 55 and older in the UK have an LPA in place, with numbers rising due to increased awareness of dementia and mental capacity issues.
- Delayed registrations can lead to complications, with around 15% of unregistered Powers of Attorney causing legal challenges when capacity is lost.
These figures highlight the importance of setting up an LPA with professional support. Marley Solicitors ensures your LPA is correctly drafted and registered, giving you peace of mind.
